SMS Alumnae Speech

When the closing of senior year was rapidly approaching, I was nominated to speak in honor of my graduating class entering the Saint Mary’s School Alumnae Association. My speech expressed how the school impacted our grade as we grew and developed into strong, independent women over the past four years. This recording is another example of a broadcasting related work sample that showcases my skills-sets in captivating the attention of my audience.

Senior Sermon

When winding down my senior year of high school I was asked to complete a Senior Sermon at St. Steven’s Episcopal Church. Church plays a significant role in my life due to my involvement in acolyting, reading passages, and helping lead youth group. This sermon embodies my growth as a person through the church which allowed me to offer my appreciation for how the church has impacted me in a very special way. This recording of my Senior Sermon demonstrates my ability to effectively public speak while being filmed in front of a large audience which will apply to further broadcasting opportunities in the future.

ENGL 149:  Trolley Stop Project

Spring semester of freshman year, I completed Dr. Courtney Rivard’s English 149: Networked and Multimedia Composition class Fall of 2017. We used WordPress and Google Maps to showcase our rhetorically analyzed chosen food sites on a virtual map that was sent to incoming students, staff, and faculty to help them navigate and learn UNC foodways. Our homework assignments leading up to this final project required me to write a series of blogs that challenged me to write concisely while maintaining relatively informal language. I chose to focus on Trolly Stop and I conducted a series of interviews and ventured to the restaurant to observe, take photographs, and eat the food on several different occasions in order to complete this final project. This assignment allowed me to dive into the history and tradition that is attached to The Trolly Stop and how it is important to the Chapel Hill community. This blog exhibits the rhetorical and technical skills required to write a successful blog for a company in the future.

MEJO 121: Saint Mary's School Marshals Final Project

In MEJO 121 at UNC-Chapel Hill I was tasked with creating a final project, which I chose to focus on a special tradition that has been held at Saint Mary's School in Raleigh, North Carolina since it was founded. Marshals are a group of six girls chosen by the student body that serve as the official hostesses of the school and hold duties in chapel, assembly, graduation and all other formal events. I had the privilege of being a marshal myself at SMS; therefore, this long-standing tradition holds a very special place in my heart.
